Melara Crane

A noblewoman of House Crane wed to Lord Alester Florent of Brightwater Keep, by whom she bore a son, Alekyne, and two daughters, Melessa and Rhea. Through Melessa, who married Lord Randyll Tarly of Horn Hill, she was the maternal grandmother of Samwell Tarly. When her husband took the office of Hand to King Stannis Baratheon and was afterward named a traitor, Melara was left a widow by his death at Dragonstone, where the red priestess Melisandre gave him to the flames. Her account survives in the appendices to A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows.
